MISN’s Community Health Advocates (CHA) program offers free presentations and trainings to educate New Yorkers on many aspects of health insurance. These presentations are offered to raise awareness of health care issues and educate people about their rights in the health care system in New York.

Since 2010, MISN’s CHA program has conducted over 89 presentations, educating over 1484 consumers about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and health insurance options.

A CHA representative  can come to your site to provide information on many topics, including:

Breastfeeding Support for African American Moms!

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), women will no longer need to worry about getting much of the preventive health care they need because of the costs associated.
A new provision in the ACA went into effect August 1, 2012, which requires all new health plans to cover the following services without co-pays or deductibles:
• Well-woman visits
• Gestational diabetes screening
• HPV DNA testing
• STI counseling, and HIV screening and counseling
• Contraception and contraceptive counseling
• Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling
• Domestic violence screening
